Yodit Kidane

Yodit joined MD Law Group in November 2022 after running a successful solo practice for five years with Kidane Law. Yodit was called to the Alberta Bar in 2016 and has since maintained an expansive practice assisting Albertans in the areas of Criminal, Personal Injury, and Immigration Law.

Yodit has extensive experience appearing in Provincial Court, the Court of King’s Bench, the Court of Appeal, and the Federal Court. She also appears regularly before various tribunals across Alberta representing clients in SafeRoads hearings and Inadmissibility proceedings.

Yodit’s motivation is rooted in her community. Recognizing where she came from, Yodit strives to give back to her community by providing mentorship and guidance to young Albertans from various backgrounds.

Volunteer experience:

• Guest Lecturer and Panel Member at the University of Alberta, Black Students Association.
• Guest Lecturer and Community Partner with African Centre, Boost Program, offering employment opportunities for youth interested in the legal industry.
• Pro Bono legal advice/seminars with Multicultural Health Brokers.
• Stride Advocacy Program volunteer, assisting marginalized and disadvantaged individuals to address concerns within the justice system.
• Mentor with Elizabeth Fry Association and Youth Criminal Defence Office.
• Mentor and Tutor with Edmonton Eritrean Association.
• Head Coach with Northeast Basketball Association.
• Member of the Criminal Trial Lawyers Association, Alberta Civil Trial Lawyers Association, and the Law Society of Alberta.

Yodit graduated with distinction from the University of Alberta with a Bachelor of Arts degree in Political Science in 2009 and Indigenous Studies and American History in 2011. Yodit went on to graduate from the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law before returning to Alberta to pursue her legal career.

Throughout law school, Yodit volunteered her time to assist individuals residing in low-income housing with various landlord and tenant issues. At the same time, Yodit successfully maintained part-time employment with a litigation boutique in Alberta, where she eventually returned to complete her articles. Yodit gained significant experience during her early years, developing critical skills that she later used to build her practice in 2018.

As a result of her unique background and breadth of knowledge, Yodit can craft innovative solutions to address her client’s needs. From intake to resolution or trial, Yodit is focused on providing the time and attention required to successfully guide each client through the legal process.
